I’d describe myself as a driven learner. My first career as an on-air TV host forced me to become a good interviewer and think on my feet. My second career as a professor, then administrator, demanded intellectual rigor and flexibility. My third career as a consultant and coach continues to require me to reinvent myself to stay ahead of client needs.
To meet those challenges I’ve been on one learning curve after another. With each learning opportunity, products emerge, for I consider it a waste of my growth if I don’t have something concrete and practical to offer others. So, over the years I’ve developed THINK TANK: The Game of Creative Problem Solving;Thought Expanders, a CD with 365 creativity prompters; The Journey a Fable; Coaching C.L.U.E.S., Real Stories, Powerful Solutions, Practical Tools (N.B. Publishing, London); The Genesis Creativity Audit, that assesses an organization’s creativity/innovation climate; scads of cases and experiential activities; and all the new ones on listening.
In December 2008, I was in a car accident that greatly impacted my hearing. Not only has the loss made it harder for me to hear; it has also made me much more aware of how much effort we must put forth to be a listening partner.

Marian, I am moved by your story. Just as listening is an another taken-for-granted bounty from the creator, I have seen how other people appreciate knowledge or food or something they cherish so much because they can’t have readily have it. It is the same experience we go thru when we loose a cherished relative or friend; we realize after the fact all the differences between the taken-for granted state and the suddenly-not-here-missing state.
Marian:
